Medication-Assisted Treatment

A physician talking with a patient across a desk in a calm clinical office.

RegenLife Centers offers physician-supervised medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorder in Cincinnati, OH, Montgomery, OH, and Edgewood, KY. Provided by Dr. Zeeshan Tayeb and our clinical team, MAT at RegenLife combines FDA-approved office-based medications — including buprenorphine and naltrexone — with clinical monitoring and whole-person care. Most major insurance accepted at all three locations.

Recovery is not a matter of willpower. Once the brain and body have adapted to a substance, the cravings and withdrawal that follow are physical, and they respond to medical treatment. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) puts a structure around that treatment so recovery becomes something you can keep up over time.

At RegenLife, MAT is part of a broader approach. We look at what often sits underneath substance use, including chronic pain and a nervous system stuck in high alert, and we treat the person rather than the dependency alone.

What medication-assisted treatment is

MAT combines FDA-approved medications with clinical monitoring and behavioral support. The medication steadies the physical side. The support helps you rebuild the parts of daily life that substance use tends to wear down. Research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse shows this combination keeps more people in treatment and lowers the risk of relapse and overdose than counseling alone.

How the medications work

We use office-based medications that a physician can prescribe and manage directly.

Buprenorphine

Reduces cravings and withdrawal for opioid use disorder without producing the high of a full opioid.

Details:

  • Office-based prescription
  • Reduces opioid cravings
  • Eases withdrawal symptoms
  • Long-term maintenance option

Naltrexone

Blocks the reward response to opioids and alcohol, which lowers the pull to use.

Details:

  • Effective for opioid and alcohol use disorder
  • Non-addictive formulation
  • Blocks reward response
  • Available as monthly injectable

Note: Methadone, which requires a licensed opioid treatment program, is not offered at RegenLife. Your clinician chooses the option that fits your history, your goals, and any other conditions you are managing.

Who it helps

MAT is appropriate for adults with opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder, including people who have tried to stop before and found that willpower alone did not hold. It also fits patients whose substance use grew out of chronic pain, which is a pattern our pain-focused practice sees often.

Opioid Use Disorder

  • • Prescription opioid dependence
  • • Heroin use disorder
  • • Previous failed attempts to quit
  • • Pain-driven opioid use

Alcohol Use Disorder

  • • Alcohol dependence
  • • Repeated relapse history
  • • Co-occurring anxiety or stress
  • • Co-occurring chronic pain

Complex Cases

  • • Substance use driven by chronic pain
  • • Co-occurring mental health needs
  • • Patients needing non-opioid pain care
  • • Long-term maintenance candidates

What treatment looks like

Care begins with a private evaluation of your health, your history, and what you want recovery to look like.

1

Private Evaluation

A thorough review of your health, your history, and what recovery looks like for you. This is confidential and without judgment.

2

Medication Induction & Dose Adjustment

We start the appropriate medication and adjust the dose until you feel stable, monitoring closely through the induction phase.

3

Maintenance Visits

Regular check-ins keep the plan working and catch problems early. We adjust the treatment as your needs change.

4

Taper When Ready

When you are ready, we can taper at a pace that protects your progress. You help make each of these decisions rather than having them handed to you.

Why we pair medication with whole-person care

Medication clears one obstacle. It will not, on its own, fix broken sleep or a nervous system stuck in high alert, and those are often what pull people back toward use. So MAT at RegenLife connects to the rest of what we do:

Behavioral Health Care

Integrated behavioral health support to address the psychological and emotional dimensions of recovery.

Non-Opioid Pain Management

Pain management that does not rely on opioids, treating the underlying condition that may have driven substance use.

Nervous-System Recovery

Support for detox and nervous-system stabilization, addressing the dysregulation that sustains cravings and relapse.

Whole-Person Assessment

We look at what often sits underneath substance use — chronic pain, trauma, stress — and treat the person, not just the dependency.

Handling these together gives recovery more to stand on.

Privacy and respect

Your care is confidential. We treat substance use as a medical condition, because that is what it is, and we leave the judgment out of it. What you share stays between you and your care team.

  • All records kept strictly confidential under federal and state law
  • Substance use disorder treated as a medical condition, not a moral failing
  • Non-judgmental care from Dr. Tayeb and the full clinical team
  • You remain an active partner in every treatment decision
